The Truth is that every generation of America is renewed by immigration. The story of Flight 93 is like the story of Sherman’s army of immigrants in the Civil War or the Nisei of 442d RCT in WW2.
We traditionally see immigration as geographic, where people born to another land travel here, where they and their children work their way from strangers to marginalized to integral in their relationship to the nation. And the nation works to accept that.
For African Americans it was partially disguised because they ‘immigrated’ from a part of the US to another and because they were not allowed to integrate.
The LTBG+ migrations have been even more disguised. They were always here, and we refused to see them. They have ‘immigrated’ into America without moving one mile.
America grows and prospers because even though the land of the nation is fixed in place, the nation of the people is constantly emigrating part way to another reality, fueled and directed by our immigrants.
